The site of the Adelphi Theatre has had numerous earlier entertainment venues on it, and the current theatre, which has Art Deco interiors, was designed by Ernest Runtz and built by Frank Kirk. It opened in 1930, and its premiere show was Ever Green, starring Jessie Matthews. In 1993, the Adelphi Theatre’s house front areas were restored to their original condition and opulence when Andrew Lloyd Webber bought a share in the theatre and opened his Sunset Boulevard musical production there.

Other notable productions presented at the Adelphi Theatre include Nymph Errant by Cole Porter, The Dancing Years, by Ivor Novello, Auntie Mame, Bless the Bride, The Music Man, Blitz!, The Jungle Book, The American Dream Machine, Damn Yankees, The Rat Pack: Live From Las Vegas and Chicago, as well as popular revivals of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita and Me and My Girl, which originally starred Emma Thomson and Robert Lindsay.

The Adelphi Theatre has a seating capacity of 1,500, and has been a Grade II listed building since 1987. This West End theatre is situated at 409-412 Strand, Westminster, City of London WC2R 0NS. The closest tube stations are Charing Cross, Embankment, Covent Garden and Temple.
