Love him or hate him, it cannot be denied that the ‘King of Pop’, Michael Jackson, had an almost hypnotic talent, which is celebrated in the Thriller Live theatrical concert that is drawing in the crowds in London’s West End. Starting with Jackson’s early years performing with his siblings and moving through to his memorable solo albums, this homage to a legend is a celebration of the man’s talent, rather than an indictment on his troubled personal life.
Six different singers perform the vocals through the ages of Jackson’s fame and fortune, complemented by excellent choreography, lighting, psychedelic sets and digital background screens that do full justice to Jackson’s hits over the decades. Thriller Live is high energy, promising and delivering a first class rendition of Jackson’s repertoire, from his beginnings as an Afro-headed, cute little boy to the intense, rather physically warped singer who sent shivers down our spines with his latter day hits.
None of the singers in this tribute concert bear any resemblance to Jackson, but they do the job superbly, with powerful voices and undeniable passion. The Thriller production is enhanced with a live band to back the singers and dancers, and wonderful authentic period costumes.
