Theatre meets rock and roll in the foot-tapping stage production of the metal musical Rock of Ages, which is built around classic rock and glam metal hits from the 1980s. Written by Chris D’Arienzo and directed by Kristin Hanggi, Rock of Ages is a fun-filled musical romp that has already seen monumental success on Broadway, and will be looking to make its mark on London’s West End come August 2011.
Having been nominated for five Tony Awards in its first year, this musical production appeals to rock fans of all ages, and features classic rock hits from Journey, White Snake, Poison, Styx and many more. Set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, a naive small town girl meets a big city rocker in the town’s most famous rock club, and their love story develops to the tune of classic 1980s rock hits like ‘We Built This City’, ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ and ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’.
The London production of this wildly popular musical is just the latest stop in a busy season for Rock of Ages, and fans can also look forward to the film adaptation, currently in production and due to be released in 2012.
