The hit Broadway musical, Crazy for You, is due to open in London’s West End to a rousing welcome. The multiple-award-winning show is a collaboration of sublime talent, featuring music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, one of the hottest musical duos of all time.
Based on a book by theatre impresario and prodigious playwright, Ken Ludwig, who claimed a coveted Tony Award for his efforts, the dynamic Gershwin comedy comprises high energy dance routines, sparkling performances and droll dialogue, all accompanied by classic Gershwin music adapted from their 1930s blockbuster musical, Girl Crazy.
The tuneful extravaganza, which played to over 1600 Broadway audiences in the 1990s, snapping up a litany of awards in the process, traces the challenges of prosperous 1930s playboy, Bobby Child. Despite his enormous wealth and unwelcome interference by his snobbish fiancée and overbearing mother, Child goes on to realise his dream of performing with the follies girls.
Deception, disappointment, love lost and found again in a glittering finale, all combine to create a dynamic show guaranteed to wow West End audiences. In the words of a New York Times reviewer, Crazy for You is a ‘classic blend of music, laughter, dancing, sentiment and showmanship’.
